Don’ t you ever wish that you could just die instead?
Why does love hurt so much? Pull and twist and rip?
When all you ever did was take a tiny, little risk?
Why is it that you tell yourself, just give it one more chance?
When everything else keeps telling you, don’t take a second glance?
What is it in human nature that makes us steal and lie?
What is it that possesses us, makes it so hard to say good-bye?
I can’t believe that it is love, that makes us be so foolish.
I won’t allow myself to say its fate that leads us to this.
I cannot say that love is there when logic fails and reason forsakes us
I cannot say that it has any part in the force that creates us
Love is just a simple word, made up and fabricated
It means nothing, and never will, we cannot evade it
We say the word to convey joy, and an emotion we cannot describe
But what we really mean to say are all the things we’re trying to hide
You make me laugh, you make me cry, but in the end I still smile
You scream, I yell, and then we kiss, it’s worth all the while
We call this feeling love, but that’s not what it is at all
Love is a complex game we play, a game in which we all will fall
We know the words will make someone care
So we say them, in hopes that their soul we can ensnare
And once we do we use them, abuse them in every way
Until they have nothing left to give us but tears and boiling rage
And then because we don’t want change, we still keep them there
Telling them things we know they need, even when we don’t care
It’s the change we’re fearing, but we won’t let it win
It’s the responsibility that holds us, but we can’t let it in
We see who we are with them, and don’t want to be who we are without
Because then we lose ourselves, in the uncertainty and doubt
What if they were the one? How could I have done it?
It’s so much easier to go back, than to move beyond it
Love isn’t so much a feeling as it is the antithesis of fear
And as long as we’re bound to it, that can never be made clear
